IN RECITAL

"One of my favorite things is programming and performing recitals. Oftentimes, I find that I rarely see myself on stage in the theater; so, when I program my recitals, I try to make sure that in some way I am telling MY story, and presenting this music through my specific lens. When you come to see me in recital, you're coming to see and hear me in all of my blackness and queerness. When we leave that recital hall together, my goal is that you understand me a little bit better."

- Brandon Bell

Mr. Bell is a dedicated recitalist, in addition to his work on the operatic and concert stage.

In the Summer of 2021, Mr. Bell was privileged to have been selected to attend the Ravinia Festival's Steans Music Institute, in their Program for Singers, studying art song repertoire under Kevin Murphy and other celebrated masters of recital literature.

With a commitment to programming both standard and contemporary repertoire, his programming spans the repertoire of composers such as Brahms, Hahn, Wolf, Clara Schumann, Carlos Simon, Shawn Okpebholo,  and Gregory Spears.

Similarly passionate about new works, Mr. Bell has premiered new song works at the
Brevard Music Center and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Mr. Bell has been rewarded by the Cleveland Foundation for his efforts to "perpetuate the singing of the Negro spiritual through performance;" and has been praised for his diverse programming of composers and poets of different backgrounds.

Mr. Bell has appeared in solo, as well as joint, recitals with the Brooklyn Art Song Society, Cincinnati Song Initiative, Salt Creek Song Festival, Chautauqua Opera, Utah Opera, Excellence in the Community, and throughout the Salt Lake Valley.
